Winter concoctions


As gin is definitely in right now and because it’s good to have some options other than mulled wine for the long winter nights, we asked Slovenian distillers about their favourite winter recipes.

Miha from Bratinov distillery recommends:
Gin Toddy
50 ml Bratinov gin #3, 1 teaspoon honey, juice of half a lemon, 100 ml hot water, lemon slice

Mix the gin, lemon and honey in a glass or mug, pour hot water over the mixture and add the lemon slice.

Erik, the creator of Brin gin, chose:
Mulled Gin
5 dl apple juice, 2 dl water, a chunk of ginger, 5 cloves, 2 cinnamon sticks, the zest of 1 orange, 1 teaspoon of allspice berries, 1 dl Brin gin

Chop the ginger and zest the orange. Mix all the ingredients apart from the gin in a pot and cook at medium heat for approximately 20 minutes. Don’t let the mixture boil. Remove from the stove, add gin and pour into glasses.

Boštjan, part of the Ljubljana twosome Broken Bones, swears by:
Foghorn
30 ml Broken Bones Ljubljana Dragon Gin, 60 ml Ginger Ale, 10 ml lemon juice, lemon twist

Pour the gin and lemon juice into an ice-filled old-fashioned glass and stir well. Top with ginger ale, stir gently and garnish with the lemon twist.
